Who are we Our Story

Your IT Department was formed by Directors Lee Hewson and Simon Cox back in 2009. Lee and Simon had a simple vision; to provide a customer focused, high quality IT service for local businesses that went beyond just fixing computers and providing hardware…

“From day one we wanted to provide more than an IT helpdesk. The name came about as we wanted to be our clients whole IT Department. This meant more than fixing things. It meant understanding the business and working with them to ensure the technology helps get the business where it wants to be” explains Simon.

The term Managed Service Provider had yet to be widely adopted in the UK, but Your IT was built on the MSP model of proactive IT maintenance and partnership with clients.

The business was initially housed at Mercury House on the Shipstones Business Park in Nottingham and Simon and Lee soon expanded – taking on their first employee in 2010. The business started to grow and as well as providing IT Support to Nottingham businesses they started to branch out into Chesterfield, Ilkeston, Loughborough, Derby, Hinckley, Mansfield and Leicester – taking on more engineers along the way.

By 2014 the team had outgrown the original offices and moved to the brand new NBV Enterprise Centre on David Lane in Nottingham, providing IT support for tennants and playing a key role in the IT infrastructure for the centre.

In 2015 the business became an Award winning IT Support provider landing the Best Small Business Award at the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Awards.

In 2016 the business purchased its own premises at Farrington Way, Nottingham and in 2018 the business gained international recognition, achieving a place in the 501 Managed Service Providers in the world. The MSP 501 list is the largest and most comprehensive ranking of Managed Services Providers in the world. Your IT have consistently ranked well in the competition currently ranking inside the top 100 in the world and top 5 in the UK. 

Your IT now employs 18 staff and supports customers as diverse as recruitment agencies, plumbers, solicitors and digital marketing agencies ranging from under 10 users to well over 100. Much has changed over the past 13 years however that original vision remains as Lee explains….

“When we visit a new client we talk about their business, not ours. We want to understand the pain points, the problems and what their IT is not doing for them that they need it to. This might be that they need to collaborate more easily, have staff work remotely, or they know things are not as secure as they should be. It’s our job to ensure the right technology is used to solve those issues.

Then we start to talk about where they want to go next, and we start to build their individual IT Roadmap. That’s when we are truly working in partnership, looking at ways to make things more efficient, reduce costs and make technology stress free for the business owners”
